Member Responsibilities and Compliance

Acquiring Attire

Members are responsible for:

  • Obtaining and maintaining required performance attire
  • Ensuring proper fit and condition
  • Replacing worn or damaged items
  • Having attire ready for each performance

Financial Considerations

  • Standard attire uses commonly available items
  • Members may already own appropriate pieces
  • Affordable options available at major retailers
  • CAUSA may provide assistance in cases of financial hardship (discuss confidentially with CEO)

Pre-Performance

  • Bring complete attire to events
  • Arrive in attire or with time to change
  • Check appearance before stage entry
  • Address any issues promptly

Non-Compliance

Before Performance: Members not meeting attire standards may be asked to modify appearance if possible, be provided backup items if available, be moved to less visible position, or in extreme cases, may not perform.

Addressing Concerns: If unable to meet requirements due to financial constraints, sizing challenges, religious or cultural needs, or medical considerations, contact CEO privately to discuss accommodations.

Rehearsals, Storage, and Special Accommodations

Dress Rehearsals

Tech Rehearsals: Full performance attire typically required for final dress rehearsal, tech run with lighting and sound, and photography and promotional shoots.

Regular Rehearsals: Standard rehearsals have more relaxed but still appropriate dress code:

  • Neat casual clothing (no performance black and white required)
  • Comfortable for playing/singing and extended rehearsal time
  • Appropriate for shared space and ministry context
  • Modest and professional (follow same modesty standards as performance attire)
  • Closed-toe shoes recommended for safety
  • No offensive graphics, slogans, or inappropriate messaging
  • No political or sociological statements apart from Christ
  • Avoid overly casual items (torn jeans, athletic wear, etc.)

Specific rehearsal attire will be communicated in rehearsal information.

Attire Check

Day of Performance: Arrive with sufficient time to check appearance. Designated person may conduct attire check. Address issues before stage time. Help one another with final touches.

Mirror Check: Check for lint or pet hair, wrinkles or creases, proper fit and adjustment, visible tags or labels, and shoe condition.

Storage and Care

Garment Care: Keep performance attire clean and pressed, store properly to avoid wrinkles, repair damages promptly, replace worn items, and transport in garment bag if possible.

Event Storage: Secure dressing room or changing area provided. Keep personal items together. Minimise costume changes where possible. Help maintain clean changing spaces.

Special Accommodations

Religious or Cultural: CAUSA respects religious and cultural dress requirements. Accommodations may include head coverings (in performance colours), modest adaptations to standard attire, and alternative pieces meeting modesty needs. Discuss needs with CEO in advance.

Physical or Medical: Accommodations for physical or medical needs include adaptive clothing options, footwear modifications, and seated positioning if needed.

Pregnancy: Pregnant members should inform leadership early, wear appropriate-sized attire in standard colours, prioritise comfort and safety, and adapt positioning as needed.

Youth Program, Photography, and Communication

Youth Program Attire

Youth Orchestra and Choir: Youth participants follow same attire standards as adult members, with considerations for age-appropriate sizing and availability, cost sensitivity for growing children, and parental support for compliance.

Flexibility for Youth: May allow slight variations for very young participants, focus on consistency within youth section, and transition to full standards as youth mature.

Photography and Video

Visual Consistency: Uniform attire is particularly important for professional photos and videos, promotional materials, social media content, and live streaming. Non-compliance is highly visible in media and impacts organisational image.

Borrowed or CAUSA-Provided Items

Organisational Wardrobe: CAUSA may maintain limited wardrobe items for emergency backup, special costume pieces, and guest artists.

Borrowing Policy: If borrowing organisational items, sign out and return promptly, return clean and undamaged, report any issues immediately, and be responsible for loss or damage.

Communication

Standard Information: Attire requirements communicated through member onboarding materials, event-specific member information pages, rehearsal reminders, and website and member resources.

Questions: Direct questions about attire to event coordinators, production team leader, or CEO. Don't guess—ask if unsure.

Review

This policy will be reviewed every two years or as artistic direction changes.
